Suggest Treatment For Chronic Idiopathic Constipation Prior To Colonoscopy Apart From Diarrhea And GERD

I had chronic Idiopathic constipation prior to colonoscopy. They found a slight twist in the colon. It s been a month post colonoscopy and I have had diarrhea since 3 days after the procedure. Having to go 6+ times a day. I have had an endoscopy that shown GERD, but not a small bowel endoscopy.

Hello,

You are having diarrhea because of the preparation solution before colonoscopy. Colonoscopy preparations mostly have Polyethylene glycol that intends to cause diarrhea after the procedure is done. Patients undergoing colonoscopy experience loose (thin) stools during the intake of colon preparation and after colonoscopy.

Sometimes, infection (colitis/enteritis) can also cause diarrhea. If patient has history of GERD from before it can trigger the symptoms. To get relieve from the symptoms you can take anti diarrheal medication, taking antacid and proton pump inhibitors will help to control the symptoms.

Avoid taking fatty food, junk food, oily spicy food, alcohol, caffeinated drinks, Take adequate amount of water and fluids. Take well cooked rice, boiled mashed bananas with a little salt, toast with tea or soup, boiled apples for a couple of days till your symptoms get better. Take meals in time, maintain healthy weight.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
