Question: Good morning I awoke this morning with lower leg pain and some uncomfortable chest pains. i have been having lower leg pains primarily calf pain for months and saw my primary care dr. several weeks ago for this problem. He first recommended an xray of my leg. the results came back as a possible leg fracture but unsure. then he ordered an mri but my insurance didn't approve it. He ask me how my leg felt and I told him the pain comes and goes however it was okay right now. So i have been working out on the eliptical m/c about 20 min. every other day and stretching a lot. I'm 63yrs. old and pretty healthy . I take 25mg of hctz to manage my high blood pressure and i take an baby aspirin daily along with a multiple vitamin, and a prosovent pill for prostate pervention. I'm concern I might have PVD. what's your thoughts

Detailed Answer:
Hello!

Welcome and thank you for asking on Ask a Doctor service!

I passed carefully through your question and would like to know if the pain is related to the distance of walking.

PVD usually leads to calf pain triggered by long distances of walking, which limits the distance of walking.

Anyway, I recommend performing a Doppler ultrasound of the leg vessels in order to examine the blood flow in them and exclude PVD.

I would also recommend checking vitamin D and calcium plasma levels for possible deficiency, which could cause leg pain.

Regarding your chest pain, I would recommend performing a resting ECG and an exercise cardiac stress test, in order to investigate for possible coronary artery disease, which is closely related to PVD.

You should discuss with your doctor on the above tests.

Hope you will find this answer helpful!

Kind regards,

Dr.Iliri
