Question: Hello,

I will be traveling to the USA as a student for my master's. The university I'm joining has an immunization requirement of 2 doses of MMR vaccine - https://www XXXXXXX edu/health/immunization-requirements.

I checked my old records and I do not have proof of MMR vaccination and neither of my parents is able to recollect I have been given one. So I want to check if it is safe to take 2 doses of the vaccine at my age. The CDC guideline also mandates it - https://www.cdc.gov/vaccines/vpd/mmr/public/index.html#:~:text=CDC%20recommends%20all%20children%20get,days%20after%20the%20first%20dose

I did consult a general physician and he mentions to asks a Pediatrician.

So could you prescribe me the vaccine so that I can take it at the medical clinic?

Brief Answer:
Hi,

Detailed Answer:
If you do not have a proof of MMR & you are doubtful of your vaccination status, then there are 2 options with you. You may get a laboratory evidence of adequate immunity against measles or you should complete a course of 2 doses on 28 days apart. However, if you have less time, then you may go even after one dose to clear the requirement. Though, even single dose will provide about 93 percent against 97 percent with 2 doses, still,it is advisable to complete course of remaining dose in USA.
One thing more is taken care of, mostly antibody production is adequate only at least after 2 weeks of the dose. Therefore, you should plan your departure, at least 2 weeks after your first dose.
There is no harm in this age for MMR Vaccination being given.I think that this should clarify your querry. Best of luck.
