Question: I suffer from allergic rhinitis & scratchy throat due to allergies & sometimes acid reflux. Post nasal drip issue is persistent so to control excessive symptoms i take anti- allergic drugs but the issue is that all of the drugs makes me sleepy the next day throughout.

I feel drowsy & sleepy to the point, i find it difficult to wake up for several hours. Is there any drug exist which does not have sleepiness as side effect?

Brief Answer:
Hi,

Detailed Answer:
I will like to elaborate---
1- There is not complete consensus on the subject, that which anti-allergic is least drowsy. Also, the drowsiness may vary for different patients with the same salt. Still,on the feedback of different persons, it has been seen that loratidine or fexofenadine may be the preferred choice as for as least drowsing anti-histaminic is concerned.
2- In many cases, simultaneous use of decongestant with anti-histaminics may give more relief in symptoms,as these act by making the blood vessels of nose narrow & thus opening the nasal passage. Also, decongestants are stimulant therefore counteracting the sedation part of anti-histaminics to some extent. However, due to possible unwanted effects of decongestants in some cases like increase in BP,anxiety, palpitation etc. it is always advisable to use these under guidance of your doctor.
3- Nasal anti-allergic sprays cause less sedation,as these only are restricted to the local effect to great extent causing least systemic effects like drowsiness.
I think this gives answer to your querry.
