Hi,
Enbrel is a drug belonging to the
TNF inhibitor group. Usually, with this group of drugs, the patient feels some relief in the symptoms of
Rheumatoid Arthritis within 1-2 weeks of their first dose & substantial relief within 3-6 months. Duration of treatment will depend on the condition of each patient.
However, besides Enbrel, there are two more commonly used drugs from this group, used for the treatment of Rheumatoid Arthritis.
Humira &
Remicade are two other drugs for this. Though Remicade is cheapest of all these 3, still, it is to be given via infusion, hence hospitalization is must. Humira is almost half costly than Enbrel.
However, individual drug to be used, should be under guidance of your doctor, depending on duration of effectivity besides other factors. If the effect of one medicine starts loosing effect, then other drug may have to be started. To be precise, you should start any medicine just under guidance of your doctor, as to be suited to your individual needs and taking care of possible side effects.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
