Had Fallen And Hit Head. Pain Behind Eyes, Dizziness And Loses Balance. On BP Med And Plavix. Suggestions?

hi, my grandpa fell and hit his head about 2 months ago. he is on several bp meds and Plavix because of clotting factors. They did a cat scan about 2 weeks ago because he is having severe pain behind his eyes that radiates to forehead. He also gets very dizzy and loses balance. He is also complaining on vision problems. and also a lot of pain in his jaw. The scan came back normal but he is still having a lot of trouble. They say its just because he had a concussion and that's how it is going to be for quit awhile. Do you think that we should have anything else done to make sure nothing else is going on. I am very concerned bc he is usually VERY active and it has pretty much made him bed riddin.

Hi,

I agree with your doctor. Concussion injuries can last for few weeks. In most of my patients the symptoms last for an average period of 2-4 months; off course with time the symptoms gradually reduce.

I am glad you scanned his head. CT scan 2 weeks after fall is generally sufficient in this case to rule out internal injuries. Fresh development after 2 weeks is extremely rare. Therefore I do not suggest you testing him further. Encourage him to rest more and drink lots of fluids. You can try medicines for pain and dizziness. Record his blood pressures regularly. I think he will alright very soon.

Follow up with his regular doctor in a months time.

Hope this helps.

Wish him a speedy recovery.
