How Contagious Is C. Difficile Infection?

My husband had his large intestine removed 02/27/18 due to a family condition re: multiple polyps and high risk for liver disease. He had a huge incision that then dehisced (sp?). Then he required a vacuum dressing for over a month. Throughout this time he has had c diff and has been on antibiotics many weeks. He has had and still tests positive for c diff. He had a 3-week stay in the hospital and 3-4 weeks in a nursing home. His wound will require a skin graft as well. The nursing home wants to send him home. What is the risk for people in my household in getting c diff?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

C. difficile is the infectious disease can be spread very easily if proper care is not being taken for good hygiene, if the proper care being taken like washing hands properly after defecation for the person who is infected with the C. diff. great care needs to be taken.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
