What Can I Do To Stop Pimples Coming Up?

default
Posted on Fri, 17 May 2024
Question: I had really bad acne over ten years ago as a young man and it’s not really a problem now, but the scars are still there.

I sometimes get the occasional ‘under the skin’ pimple that becomes large and red and inflamed. This usually goes away in a week or two.

What can I do to stop these pimples coming up, and also remove or treat the old acne scars on my face, and forehead?

Thanks

Hello
Thanks for the query.
Acne is more of a lifestyle disease.
Your face must be oily and hence it is leading to blockade of sebaceous glands leading to acne.
Use the following
1. Clindamycin 1 % gel in morning
2. Benzoyl peroxide 2.5 % gel in night
3. Use a salicylic acid or glycolic acid based face wash
4. Use a water based sunscreen such as suncot gel.
All the above medication to be used for at least three months.
These are safe and effective and usually available over the counter.
You must reduce oil intake in diet to control acne. Wash your face at least three times in a day.
Reduce intake of food with high glycemic index such as chips and bakery products.
Drink lot of water and increase intake of fiber rich diet.
These might appear to be a general advice but actually these are going to help you.
Superficial scars will heal on it's own but deep scars will require surgical management.
Let me know if you have any other doubts.
Thank you

Please explain what these are:

1. Clindamycin 1 % gel in morning
2. Benzoyl peroxide 2.5 % gel in night
3. Use a salicylic acid or glycolic acid based face wash

And what they do.. they do’nt found natural, and from what you were saying I need to just have less oil on the face, right?

I really don’t eat hardly any oils or any fried foods, so diet is not the issue,

I also eat lots of fibre and drink lots of water

My skin on the whole like I said is ok, it’s just randomly I’ll get one or two really inflamed random under the skin pimples, usually forehead, cheeks

Detailed Answer:
Hello.
Clindamycin is an antibacterial cream.
Benzoyl peroxide helps also acts by killing bacteria and causes mild exfoliation of skin.
Salicylic acid or glycolic acid face wash removes oil from face.
In few individuals the body secretes more oil on face and hence acne develops.
The above medication is to take care of acne and that extra oil secretion.
You can use the creams only when fresh lesions are there while face wash can be used on regular basis.
Let me know if you have any other doubts.
Thank you
