Hi,

Always a chance you could be pregnant no matter WHEN you had sex with a fertile male and no matter IF a condom were used, or if you are on birth control. There is ALWAYS a chance that a pregnancy can occur when you have sex with a fertile partner. Always keep that in mind.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Brief Answer:
Pregnancy test theoretically should be positive WHEN.....

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

If you were expecting your period to start YESTERDAY and you generally very regular and predictable and you've had sexual relations with someone you believe a fertile male then, a pregnancy test done today would be expected to show positive.

Most pregnancy tests theoretically should be positive on the first day the woman MISSES her next expected period.

Having said that.....you should also know that a woman's period can be thrown off by any little thing, a cold, a flu, taking medications, not eating well, and of course, the all important, "BEING STRESSED OUT." Now, in your case I don't know whether you are actually looking to become pregnant or hoping that you're not pregnant.....but sometimes...in either direction women can be very stressed out....so again this could be a normal delay sort of response.

I always counsel patients (if they are able) to hold off for about 1 week to see if the period simply comes late....and most of the time that's exactly what happens, however, some women simply cannot wait and wish to know.

In that case, I also counsel you to make sure you pick a HIGH QUALITY testing kit to use to test yourself. And to READ THE INSTRUCTIONS very carefully in order to perform the test. Do exactly what they tell you to do STEP BY STEP....do not overrun the times to dip the test strip, use fresh urine, and don't overrun or undercount the time necessary to see a result. If you've never taken a pregnancy test before you may wish to consult either the pharmacist or a friend who has done one to make sure you're doing things the right way.

Of course, the alternative is to see a doctor and they will carry out the test. If the test comes out negative and you're sure you've done it correctly and the period still hasn't come in 1 more week after doing the test then, I always recommend a 2nd test. Again, I can't emphasize how important it is to get a good quality test kit and not to choose something simply based upon cost.

I wish you the best and hope you get the result you are hoping for.....In the mean time and before you get 100% confirmation one way or the other as to your status of pregnancy I would also ask that you behave and treat yourself AS IF YOU WERE PREGNANT at this point. What I mean by that is that you should immediately cease any types of activities that could detrimental to the fetus such as smoking, drinking alcohol, using illicit substances and you should begin hydrating very well throughout the day, eating well, and taking multivitamins. These are common sense rules of the road...but sometimes in the heat of trying to figure out whether there is a pregnancy or not women forget these basic principles of good care for the baby and sometimes it can take them a couple of weeks to figure out exactly what's going on during which time they do not properly take care of themselves.

At any rate, I do wish you well and by all means share the result with me if you'd like.

If I've provided useful and helpful information to your questions could you do me a huge favor by CLOSING THE QUERY and be sure to include some fine words of feedback along with a 5 STAR rating? Again, many thanks for submitting your inquiry and please let me know how things turn out.
