When To Start Contraceptive Pills If Having A Period?

I took the morning after pill on the 15th due to failed barrier and I have come on my period today (quite a painful period) on the 21st. I have decided to go back on the pill, so do I could this as my first day? or wait. I normally come on my (normal) period around the 4/5th. I don't want to take any risks.

Hello,

You can take contraceptive pills within 5 days after the first day when your period starts. The pill can be started anytime until 26th morning and you will be protected from pregnancy right away. Take the pills as per the instructions on the leaflet. For the best efficacy of the medicine, it is best to take it at the same time everyday. Always go for protected sex and avoid multiple partners.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nupur K, General & Family Physician
